My Journey: Bridging Cultures and Economies

Welcome to my story. In September 2023, I flew from Vietnam to Canada to begin my studies at Fraser International College. It was my first time stepping into a completely new world—new culture, new people, new expectations. My journey has been filled with excitement, mistakes, challenges, and personal growth. Through it all, I’ve learned how deeply culture, opportunity, and experience can shape who we become.

A World Apart: Vietnam and Canada

When I first arrived in Canada, everything felt unfamiliar. The environment, the lifestyle, even the small everyday routines were completely different from what I knew in Vietnam. Moving to Vancouver meant adjusting to a new culture, a colder climate, and a faster-paced academic life. The cost of living, the education style, and the level of independence expected from students were all new to me. It truly felt like stepping into a different world, and I spent my first months learning how to navigate this new reality.

Culture Meets Economy: A Personal Perspective

My journey also revealed how culture and economy shape our decisions. Leaving Vietnam for education in Canada was a major investment, both financially and emotionally. Studying at Fraser International College introduced me to a multicultural environment where people from many backgrounds come to pursue better opportunities. But this experience also came with challenges. During my first semester, I made the mistake of focusing too much on a new relationship instead of my studies. Failing my first semester was one of the hardest lessons I’ve faced. Still, it taught me how important balance, discipline, and priorities are—especially when living abroad, where education and opportunities are tied closely to personal success.

Inspiring Connections Across Cultures

Even through difficult experiences, moving across cultures helped me grow. My mistakes became lessons about responsibility, independence, and emotional maturity. Navigating a new country pushed me to reflect on who I am and who I want to become. I hope my story shows others—especially international students—that it’s normal to struggle, make mistakes, and feel lost at times. What matters is how we learn from those moments. Transitioning between cultures creates opportunities for self-discovery, new connections, and deeper understanding. My journey from Vietnam to Vancouver taught me to embrace change, focus on my goals, and build a future strengthened by both cultures I belong to.

"This journey shows the real challenges of moving abroad—navigating a new culture, overcoming personal mistakes, and learning to grow through experience. It’s an honest reminder that even difficult moments can become powerful turning points."
